Two year old boys are a special thing. They are on the go, busy little people who love to learn new things.
But, their curiosity and energy levels can be tough to manage on a day to day basis sometimes.
I’ve found myself asking, “What do you do with a 2 year old boy all day?” or, “How can I keep my 2 year old son busy today?”
Well, this article will give you lots of fun ideas to keep your two year old boy occupied and happy.

Activities for 2 Year Old Boys (or Girls!)
- Play hide and seek.
- String large wooden beads on pipe cleaners.
- Give your child a damp rag and tell them to clean. Two year old boys LOVE to mimic what they see their parents do!
- Make a sensory box with rice. Have them hide their toys in it.
- Blow bubbles.
- Create a track for their cars (cardboard, blocks, etc.)
- Pretend to be animals.
- “Make food” in a play kitchen.
- Play with play doh.
- Finger paint in the bathtub (with bath paint).
- Sort objects by color.
- Play Simon Says.
- Give them a bucket of water (outside) to wash their toys.
- Have a picnic.
- Color with crayons.
- Play dress up with hats.
- Make a fort or boat out of a box.
- Play with water beads.
- Have a dance party.
- Make a simple snack together. They will love to dump the measured ingredients in.
- Do simple board puzzles.
- Teach them finger plays. Here is a book to teach you.
- Give them a sticker book and a piece of paper.
- Build houses with magnetic blocks.
- Cut long holes in the top of a Pringles can. Give your two year old boy tongue depressors and show him how to insert them into the holes. Doesn’t sound that fun, but two year old boys think its great!
- Make drums out of pots and pans.
- Hide stuffed animals or toys for them to find.
- Read books. Some of my 2 year olds favorites are Let’s Play, Where’s Spot, and Goodnight Moon.
- Go “fishing” with this fishing set.
- Set up a blanket fort for them.
- Have them color in shapes you drew.
- Give them a handheld vacuum and send them to work.
- Sing songs (Old MacDonald, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, etc.).
- Have a tea party.
- Race each other (of course, let them win).
- Run in the sprinkler.

You’ve probably thought of most of these ideas before, but sometimes having a list of activities to do with your two year old makes it a little bit easier. On those days when you’re wondering what to do, try out one or more of these ideas!
